I was brought up as a toddler listening to my mother read me the tales of Brer Rabbit. It may not be the most popular book on the market because of it's political correctness thing, but these characters are lovable and my grandson loved them. If you remember the Disney movie, "The Song of the South," it was made around the books' characters.
The stories my grandma told me time and again as a child. Was so happy to find this book on , and share the same stories with my children too. They are tried and true stories, that hold my childrens attention and they have fun listening to them.
Julius Lester's retelling take all of the cheesy language and 19th century ideas of race in the Harris telling, and retells Uncle Remus' stories in a hilarious but respectful way. These are funny, entertaining and empowering tales.
